There’s nothing like getting lost out in the middle of nowhere, reaching for your cell phone to get some directions, only to find out that you are out of a coverage area. Nothing is more frustrating than having technology right at your fingertips without being able to benefit from it.

There is a fix for that, though. Just because your cell phone is out of a coverage area does not mean that you have to navigate the roads alone, lost. Instead of driving around, hoping to see a friendly face for help, consider installing Garmin Mobile on your Smartphone. Not only does Garmin Mobile have up to date maps and directions, but it also works even if your cell phone is out of range.

Another perk of Garmin Mobile is that it gives you traffic updates. If you’re running behind, that can be a great advantage. If there is a traffic accident or road work on your path, the Garmin Mobile will give you alternate directions so you can make it to your destination in a timely fashion.

Best of all is the ease that the Garmin Mobile can travel with you from place to place. Travel directions will always be handy as long as you have your cell phone with you. Even if you’re out with friends and want to find the location of the next bar, you can simply pick up your phone, plug in the information, and find it without any hassle.

Garmin has just unveiled the new Garmin GMR 24, a 24-inch 4 kilowatt marine radar which matches the perfect balance of size, power, and industry-leading target discrimination. The GMR 24 features a 3.6 degree horizontal and 25 degree vertical beamwidth, which helps in acquiring and separating the targets more accurately. It has really huge effective range of 48 nautical miles and a minimum range of 20 meters, the GMR 24 has dual rotation speed, with the ability to switch from 24 RPM to 30 RPM for rapid target updates while navigating in tight quarters.

It also has features for fast near-target updates and the reliability on Garmin Marine Network. The GMR 24 transmits data over the Garmin Marine Network, a waterproof 100-megabit plug-and-play proprietary network that gives you the ability to expand your boat’s system as needed. Like other Garmin radar, GMR 24 processes raw data within the radome. This avoids the need for a dedicated external display, allowing any network-compatible Garmin chartplotter to double as your radar screen. And as an aid to locational awareness, you can overlay the GMR 24 radar image on the chartplotter’s map page. You can also split the on-screen display so that you can view the map and the standard radar page simultaneously.

“The GMR 24 is the ultimate in versatility when it comes to marine radar,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “The unit features four thousand watts of transmit power, dual rotation speed for faster near-target updates, and plug-and-play reliability on the Garmin Marine Network – with a footprint that works on almost any boat.”

The navigation unit can also help you avoiding traffic on the water using the unit’s MARPA target tracking feature, which allows you to track the bearing, course, speed and predicted closest approach of multiple targets. The unit measures 24″ (dia), 9.8″ (height), and weighs in at a hefty 9.1 kg (20.1 lb). Obviously it’s got IPX7 Waterproof rating.

Garmin GMR 24 Marine Radar is priced at $1919.99 and you can find you local dealer here.
