MiFi is a portable wireless router with GPS ability, file storage and Linux -based operating system that can host software applications like an e-mail. The manufacturer of MiFi is Novatel. The company is calling its technology an ”Intelligent Mobile Hotspot”. MiFi represent a new category of mobile broadband that gives users put their world of content, services and connectivity in one pocket.

Including an internal battery providing four hours standby and up to four hours of active use on a single charge, the MiFi product enables user to access high-speed internet from anywhere. Novatel’s MiFi produvr offers a unique solution to secure, control and manage wireless connections. The MiFi configurations support applications such as VPN, automatic syncing of email and management capabilities for the IT manager. MiFi will continue to develop in order to support applications and services of individual lifestyle. The device is also compatible with Windows XP and Vista and with Mac OSX 10.3.9 or higher.

PocketFinder is a GPS device that gives you locate the holder anywhere in the United States via the Internet. The device had the size of Oreo cookie and can fix its location within 30 feet. PocketFinder lets you mark safety zones and danger zones, and alerts you if the device enters or leaves such areas. The PocketFinder is waterproof and you can placed it on your pet’s collar or your luggage.

The PocketFinder will be available in March for $130 and a monthly service fee.

The RIM BlackBerry Storm offers an innovative touch screen that provides tactile feedback to confirm your selection. The Storm offers dual-mode functionality for world-roaming capabilities as well as EV-DO Rev. A and UMTS/HSDPA support. Other highlights include GPS and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The RIM BlackBerry Storm may blow in a frenzy for Verizon Wireless subscribers wanting a touch screen similar to the Apple iPhone.

NetGear MR814 Wireless Router has detachable wireless antenna, attractive designa and includes vertical stand,  and 24/7 phone support. The extremely affordable MR814 gives families with limited networking experience an easy way to build a wireless home network. The MR814 currently retails for less than $130 and can be found online for as little as $60. The last thing you need is another piece of hardware. Fortunately, the folks at Netgear provide a space-saving, rubberized stand for the MR814 that lets you stand the router vertically on one end–very tidy.

The MR814 also has a stylized silver case. The device itself is fairly basic. On the back, you’ll find four Ethernet ports for wired computers and one Internet port for sharing a cable/DSL connection.

The suitably named LG Dare offers a few tricks we haven’t seen before in the touch-screen phone industry. For instance you can drag and drop icons to customize your own desktop, or you can use a drawing pad to sketch ideas, which then can be sent via MMS to a friend. The LG Dare also features one of the most advanced camera-it 3.2 megapixel camera has settings like a face detection, noise reduction, panorama photo stitching and Smart Pic technology. The LG Dare has a full HTML browser, EV-DO Rev.A, and a plenty of other powerful features.

The bad thing is that the touch interface has a slight learning curve and you won’t be too pleased with the handwriting interface. Also the Web Browsing experience is quite disappointing.

The Sony Walkman S-Series offers a load of cool extras such as integrated noise-canceling, podcast support, an FM tuner and a smart playlist creator. The display is bright and the menu is easy to navigate. The player features some sound- enhancement options. It has Rhapsody DNA and works flawlessly with Amazon Video. Battery life is superb. The S-Series Walkman has only 8GB memory and doesn’t include memory expansion. There is also no voice recording option.

Buffalo’s new WRB-G54K wireless router and repeater kit solves one of today’s most common problems for Wi-Fi networks: insufficient range. The kit includes a broadband router and a repeater, each of which comes preconfigured to relay wireless data to the other.

The bottom line: Buffalo’s kit is great for large homes or offices that need a wireless network with room to grow and range to spare.

The HTC T-Mobile G1 features a full QWERTY keyboard, 3G support, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth. This smartphone offers good integration with Google applications, as well as access to the Amazon MP3 Store and You Tube.

But G1 doesn’t include a standart headphone jack and lacks stereo Bluetooth and Microsoft Exchange support. There’re also some irritating quirks that makes the gadget uncomfortable to hold. I would say that G1 is best suited for early adapters and gadget hounds, rather than consumers and business users.

Instead of re-inventing the wheel Netgear have taken a common mobile design and changed the innards. Measuring 110 x 46 x21mm and weighing 110 grams the Netgear Skype phone is quite an acceptable size for a mobile from any of the UK networks, it is well built and feels sturdy although we are not massive fans of the off white and silver colour scheme.

Priced at a slightly expensive £150 the Netgear Skype Phone SPH101 is the worlds first mass market device to free Skype from the PC and mean you can take calls without a computer at all. However expect to see this price tumble as others like Linksys, and Belkin get in on the cat pre Christmas 2006.

I hope that Meraki with their efforts will mark another step in changing the economics of Wi-Fi access, driving the cost per household of high speed connections to very low prices.
