HP is about to release the first multi-touch laptop, and it will most probably run Windows Mobile 7 developed to support multi-touch. The TouchSmart tx2 will get you multi-touch two-finger control but there’s a catch to it. The whole multi-touch thing works only with the HP MediaSmart suite of applications.
The TouchSmart tx2 is a 12.1 inch laptop which can get you up to 8GB of RAM. It is powered by AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core processor and you can opt for storage space anywhere from 160 to 500GB. The WXGA screen has an embedded N-trig digitizer which will help you do all that multi-touching. No word on availability and pricing yet.
Holocube, an european manufacturer, has created a stylish box capable of displaying single objects in 3D. It is called Holocube 3D Projection Box and sports an integrated HDD that stores video and uses it to create 3D Holograms at a resolution of 1080i. It’s available in 10-inch, 15-inch, or 17-inch models, with a 40GB hard drive. However if this technology catches on then there will be a public outcry at the need to look for the old cupboards we threw out when switching from CRTs to LCDs.
The Holocube costs approx $9000 and can store up to 18-hours of compressed video at 4Mb/s on its 40GB hard drive, which can then be converted into a 3D hologram. The display’s brightness rating is 1100cd/m², and a USB port is built-in for uploading fresh content. You also get an optional floor stand for easy transportation.
The novelty of ReWalk is in the unique manner in which the user is actively involved in the walk-restoration and other mobility functions, through the control processes. Utilizing sophisticated algorithms, upper-body motions are analyzed and used to trigger and maintain walk (gait) patterns and other modes of operation (such as stair-climbing and shifting from sitting to standing), leaving the hands free for self support and/or other functions.
